About Us
Croxteth Park Volunteer Group (CPVG) was setup in 2017 to provide support and resources to the park management team in the wake of many council cuts to funding. The achievements of the group are massive considering the short period of time we have been formed, the group continues to go from strength to strength and we are getting significant amounts of feedback about how much better the park is looking. We have cleaned the ponds, built fences, doing numerous litter picks and completely revitalised The Kennels. Which are a Grade II listed building which serves as the volunteer base and is in the process of being lovingly restored by the volunteers.

CPVG works hard to help record biodiversity and help with the conservation of Croxteth Hall and Country Park which was bequeathed to the people of Liverpool by the Late Earl of Sefton. We support the aims and objectives of the park’s management team and provide ongoing support for a variety of projects on a voluntary basis.
We aim to contribute to providing a legacy for future generations so they can also enjoy the natural environment across all 500 acres of park and woodlands.
CPVG has a vision to:
-
Support the development of Croxteth Hall and Country Park,
-
Promote the benefits of volunteering in relation to ongoing repair, maintenance and upkeep of the 500 acre park,
-
Providing sustained outcomes for the local and wider community.

It is recognised that volunteers make a unique and valuable contribution to people and communities and this is seen as an area in which significant developments can be made in order to benefit all sectors of society. Over the years there has been an increase in opportunities in volunteering generally, and nationally volunteering has been promoted by a number of initiatives.
There has been a growing body of legislation, guidance and research that has raised awareness, as well as expectations, about the role of volunteering. Much of the literature casts volunteering in the context of building social capital, promoting a civic society, empowering local communities and improving service delivery.
The CPVG is made up of local people who want to contribute something to their much loved park and recognise the challenges that the City Council is facing in maintaining our parks and greenspaces given that they are not statutory services.
The group only formed in January 2017 and in a short period of time now has over 50 people on its volunteer database. We have tackled various projects including a litter pick as part of the Great British Spring Clean and are currently working in partnership with the City Council to restore a Grade II listed building (The Old Kennels) that had fallen into disrepair.
The long term aspiration for the Kennels is for it to become a Heritage and Information Centre staffed and run solely by volunteers. This is subject to current developments and changes within the park. Local councillors and the Mayoral Lead for Parks, Peter Mitchell have visited the site to meet the volunteers, see the work that has been undertaken and have been hugely supportive of the group and its aims and objectives.
Here's a few of our Regular Volunteers:

Oliver
The young guns in the group, Oliver fits in time to volunteer around his uni work. He's not afraid to get his hands dirty or get stuck in the mud.

Chris

Ruth
The mastermind behind the bottom flower bed. Ruth enjoys watching birds and walking her dog.
